The mandate of the Ministry is to manage the Government’s Legislative Programme

OUR SERVICES

Contribute to the legislative vetting process by providing legal technical and strategic guidance

Consultation with all Ministry Heads Permanent Secretaries Directors on the process and progress of legislation and policy initiatives

Produce regular Legislative Agendas for the Government

Develop policy for Long term policy initiatives in consultation with relevant Ministers

OUR APROACH

Management of the Legislative Programme requires action from the idea stage to presentation of the a Bill in the House. Ministries who contribute to the legislative process are required to be consulted and assisted wherever it is possible to move initiatives from idea stage to consultation with stake holders, to consideration by the Cabinet followed by drafting instructions being issued to Parliamentary Counsel in the Attorney General Chamber’s. We believe in being proactive and in regular contact with Ministry Heads of Departments and their staff to co ordinate the legislative process culminating in a Bill being tabled in the House of Assembly followed by efficient implementation of the initiative it supports.
